The Very Hungry Caterpillar First Birthday Party

Ezra is officially a year old and my mommy heart can barely handle it! This past year has gone by so fast and it’s been so fun seeing Ezra’s personality come out. He’s such a curious and happy baby and even though I love the baby stage, it’s going to be fun experiencing this new stage!

No matter how long you’ve been here, you know how much I love a themed birthday (check out Uriah’s Sonic the Hedgehog-themed birthday party here!) so I obviously had to pull out all the stops for Ezra’s first birthday! We decided to go with The Very Hungry Caterpillar as the theme since it’s one of Ezra’s favorite books and it was seriously so cute.

Like any themed party, putting together Ezra’s first birthday party took a lot of planning but it was so worth it! The day was absolutely magical. We had so much fun celebrating our little guy with our friends and family and we couldn’t have asked for better weather.

The Food

For food, we kept things pretty simple and did a lot of small bites and finger foods. We knew all of our guests would be walking around, mingling, and playing with kids so we wanted everything to be super easy! Since we hosted the party at our house, we set up a table with mini chicken and waffles, deviled eggs, and finger sandwiches. Everything was delicious!

For dessert, we of course did a birthday cake and a smaller smash cake for Ezra which was SO cute. Our local bakery did such a wonderful job designing the cakes and they were delicious! We had these situated on a table at the front of the room so they were on display. They also served as a backdrop for our photo wall prior to singing happy birthday and eating dessert!

The Decor

One of my favorite parts of a themed party is pulling all of my ideas together and really making the theme come to life. I was able to find a lot of decor on Amazon and Etsy, including Ezra’s milestone board! We also worked with SH Designz via Etsy for all of the custom gift bags, candy bags, and coloring sheets.

For the ONE letters, we worked with ALPHA-LIT which is a local business in Tuscaloosa. We’ve worked with them in the past and they’re truly incredible. So easy to work with and so helpful. Any time I go to them, they are able to make my dreams a reality!

What’s a themed first birthday without a themed outfit?! I found these cute Very Hungry Caterpillar t-shirts on Etsy and knew we had to have them to stay on theme! They are so stinkin’ cute and will be something I’ll keep forever to remember the day. We also got this cute little outfit for Ezra and I couldn’t get enough of our big boy!
