One of my favorite ways to treat myself to indulge in a little extra luxury each day is through my bedding. Sleeping with a bunch of cozy pillows and blankets is truly the best! With fluffy bedding, your bed will also look more luxurious and expensive, even if you style it on a budget. Today, I’m diving into how we make our bed look and feel luxurious and how you can, too!
How Can I Make My Bed Look More Expensive?
There are so many ways to make your bed look more expensive, but it really comes down to these three points.
Invest in a High-Quality Mattress
Everyone has different preferences on the types of mattresses they fall asleep on; some want a mattress that feels like a cloud while others want a mattress that is more firm. After a lot of research, we ended up going with this one. It’s a memory foam mattress that helps relieve pressure and is so plush. I can’t recommend it enough! Having a mattress that fits your needs will instantly make your bed look (and feel!) more luxurious.
Choose All-White Bedding
Sure, sometimes I’m tempted to use fun color bedding but there’s something so luxurious feeling about all-white bedding. It’s universally beloved, it’s chic, it’s soothing, and it reminds me of a hotel! Not to mention, it feels like falling asleep inside of a cloud. When it comes to white bedding, these are my go-to sheets. They’re so soft and keep you cool at night and are under $50 for queen sheets!
Layer, Layer, Layer
Whether you’re at a furniture store, on vacation, or scrolling through Pinterest (give me a follow here!), there’s one thing all luxury-looking beds have in common: they put a big emphasis on layering. This is one of the best ways to make your bed look more luxurious. Since incorporating more layers on our bed, I feel like our bedroom has instantly been transformed into a luxury space that makes getting into bed each night feel even better.
The Best Luxury Bedding On A Budget
I love expensive bedding as much as the next person but in this chapter of our life, it’s hard to justify spending hundreds of dollars on expensive bedding. Thankfully, there are so many options for luxury bedding that still fits within our budget! Over the years, I’ve tried a lot of budget-friendly bedding and these are our favorites!
Sheets – These are my absolute favorite sheets! I love ultra-soft sheets and these ones are so incredibly soft. They’re also cooling, under $50, come in a bunch of different sizes, and are also available in deep pockets if you have a thicker mattress.
Down Alternative Pillows – It’s no secret that hotels have the best pillows and I have been on the hunt to get pillows for our bed to recreate the feeling at home. I stumbled across these ones on Amazon and oh my gosh, they are life-changing! They are so fluffy and are great for back, stomach, and side sleepers, which I can appreciate. I will truly never purchase any other pillows ever again.
White Tassel Duvet Cover – This white duvet cover is a favorite of mine! It comes as a set with matching pillow shams and is made from a microfiber fabric so it’s breathable and soft. The fringe gives it a fun texture, too!
Duvet Insert – One of the best ways to make your bed fluffy and luxurious is with a high-quality, fluffy duvet insert and this one is the best! It washes really well too and I swear is softer and fluffier each time it comes out of the dryer.
Mattress Pad – Whether you have kids or not, a mattress pad helps protect your mattress from spills and every day use so it lasts longer. I’ve always utilized some sort of mattress pad/protector but this one is unlike anyone I’ve tried before! It’s super fluffy and comfortable, making your bed feel even more cloud-like.
Plush Mattress – While a mattress doesn’t make your bed look any more luxurious, it does make it feel more luxurious. I cannot recommend this one enough; it’s comfortable, comes in a box, and is under $500 for a queen.
Throw Blanket – Layering your bedding instantly makes your bed look more fluffy and luxurious. This is where throw blankets come in! This one is one of my favorites because it adds texture to our bed, while also being cozy.
How Can I Make My Bed Look Fluffy And Nice?
To make your bed look fluffy and nice, you’re going to want to start with your bedding basics. This includes your sheets, pillows, and comforter/duvet. Once you have these items on your bed, you’ll be able to incorporate all of the extra layers that will make your bed look like a cloud.
For your comforter/duvet, you’ll want to do a tri-fold. This will immeiately make your bed look fluffier and more luxurious. To do this, lay your comforter flat on your bed and then pull the top corners down about 1/3 of the way over. Then you’ll pull the bottom corners up and over the other layer you just pulled down.
Once you’ve placed your essential layers on the bed, stack your pillows against your headboard and place your shams and throw pillows in front of them. This is an easy way to create more definition and avoids that “flat” look. Not sure how many euro shams and throw pillows to use? My rule of thumb is 1 for a twin-size bed, 2 for a full/queen-size bed, and 3 for a king-size bed. Once you’ve placed your pillows, give them a chop to give them that luxurious look.
What Is The Correct Way To Make A Bed?
There are so many different ways to make your bed, but if you want it to look fluffy and luxurious, follow these steps.
- Mattress Pad. While this step is optional, utilizing a mattress pad on your bed will keep your mattress stain-free and will keep it looking and feeling it’s best for years to come.
- Bottom Sheet. A fitted bottom sheet will give you a clean, comfortable surface to sleep on.
- Top Sheet. While some people prefer to sleep without a top sheet, this layer will give you a more luxurious feel in bed.
- Duvet/Comforter. Once you have your sheets on your bed, place your duvet/comforter on your bed and pull it back about 1/3 of the way to create a layer.
- Quilt. If you get cold easily or want to be extra warm during the winter months, a quilt is a great layer! This layer should be folded towards the bottom of your bed either in thirds or fourths depending on your bed size.
- Throw blanket. To give your bed some texture, add a throw blanket to the end of your bed.
- Pillows. Once all of your blankets are on your bed and folded, it’s time to add your pillows. Stack your sleeping pillows against your headboard before placing your shams and throw pillows in front of them.
Taking the time to properly make your bed every day will help you start your day off on the right foot while ensuring your room looks clean and put together on a daily basis. The icing on the cake is going that extra step and adding elements that make it look (and feel!) luxurious. I promise you that incorporate these steps and effort into your bed making that you’ll sleep better!
