Must-Have Tech for Content Creation

Creating content takes a lot of time and effort but it’s such a fun and rewarding career. With the right tech, the process of creating content is much easier and you’ll notice a difference in the content you create. Over my 10+ years in this industry, I’ve tried a lot of tools and today, I’m excited to share my must-have tech for content creation with you all. Some of it is on the pricier side but it has improved my skills tenfold and allows me to create better content for my audience. If you’re just starting out, throughout this post, you’ll also find some budget-friendly options to help get you started!

Must-Have Tech for Content Creation

High-Quality Camera

I think once you want to elevate your content it’s important to invest in a great quality camera. I personally prefer a DSLR; I personally find it to have the greatest image quality. I currently use a Canon 90D and a Canon EOS 5D Mark IV. These cameras are both on the expensive side so I would definitely say they are an investment. I use both of these cameras to shoot photos for both my blog and social media platforms, as well as record video content for my main YouTube channel! I also prefer using these two cameras to shoot a majority of my Instagram Reel and TikTok videos. The quality is so much better than my iPhone. If you’re not looking to invest as much quite yet a great alternative is the Canon EOS 2000D.

Since video requires more space, I always use this video SD card versus a standard SD card.

Tripod

A tripod is another great tool to have when creating content. A tripod provides stability and eliminates camera shake, resulting in a smoother and more professional-looking video. It also helps ensure that the shot stays in focus and reduces the chances of a blurry situation. I have this one and love it!

Also, if you create videos for Instagram Reels or TikTok and want to use your DSLR to create higher-quality content, I would highly recommend this attachment for the tripod that helps create vertical videos.

Ring Light

When creating content a good ring light is definitely needed. This will help for when you want to film, and the lighting is not ideal. filming with a ring light creates a brighter aesthetic and lights up the face evenly. A lot of them have multiple options to change the warmth or coolness of the light and to dim or make it brighter giving you more control of your aesthetic. I love this one because it’s easily transportable but on the days I’m filming at home, this one is my go-to.

Microphone

Another piece of equipment that you should invest in is a microphone. Having one creates better audio and voiceovers for your videos. I have one that attaches to my camera and another that attaches to my computer to make things easier. For my camera, I love this one. The quality is absolutely amazing but it is on the pricier side so if you’re just starting out, this one is a great option! For recording audio/voiceover on my desktop computer, I use this mic.

External Hard Drive

It’s no secret that photo and video content takes up a lot of space on your computer. To help avoid my computer slowing down and to keep all of my content safe in case something does happen to my computer, I like to use an external hard drive. This is the one I’ve been using for years! It’s low profile so it’s easy to transport and store. I can’t recommend it enough.

Vlogging Equipment

When it comes to vlogging equipment for beginners, you don’t need a lot to start, but these are three essential items you need.

Vlogging Camera

A vlogging camera is a type of camera that is designed to be used specifically for creating video blogs, or vlogs. These cameras typically have features that are specifically tailored to the needs of vloggers, such as a flip-out screen that can be used for self-recording, a wide-angle lens to capture more of the surroundings, good low-light performance, and image stabilization to minimize camera shake. A vlogging camera is usually lighter in weight in comparison to a DSLR. it’s easier to navigate while you’re moving about your day-to-day activities.

I have been using this one for years and love it!

Tripod

A tripod is really useful when vlogging it makes it easier to shoot footage while you’re out and about and it also helps stabilize your camera while recording your videos. For the camera I use, there is a tripod made specifically for it and I highly recommend using it!

Car Tripod

If you’re going to be filming any in your car, I definitely recommend a windshield tripod.  The mount typically consists of a suction cup base that attaches to the windshield and an adjustable arm or bracket that holds the device. A windshield tripod can be used to mount a camera to the car’s windshield, allowing you to record your journey. This is the one I use!
