As a woman with black skin, keeping my complexion glowing and looking it’s best is a priority for me. This is exactly why body oils are one of my favorite steps in my daily skincare routine. They’re such great way to keep my skin hydrated and nourished! If you haven’t started using a body oil in your skincare routine or are looking for a new one to try, today’s blog post is all about the best body oils for black skin. Each oil has been tried and tested by me, and are ones I use on a regular basis to keep my skin looking radiant.
What Does Body Oil Do?
So many women exclusively use body lotion but by incorporating a body oil into your routine, you’ll be able to lock in moisture. The best time to apply body oil is post-cleansing or exfoliating when you get out of the shower and your skin is still damp. The most important part of body oil is its occlusive properties. This is what helps to seal the moisture in.
Body oil is also really great for acne-prone or oily skin, despite what one might think! When you introduce a body (or face!) oil into your routine, the oil helps dial down your skin’s natural sebum production because it no longer has to overcompensate for the lack of oil.
Best Body Oils For Black Skin
If you’re like most black woman, you take care of your skin. You’re using body washes, moisturizers, oils, and other skincare products on a daily basis. The goal is always to keep our beautiful complexions glowing and looking it’s best! The great thing about body oils is that there is truly an oil for everyone. Picking one out though can be overwhelming. Whether you’re just starting to incorporate oils into your routine or are looking for a new one to try, these are the best body oils for black skin! Each are tried and tested by me and are ones I constantly have in my skincare rotation.
Moroccan Dry Body Oil
Moroccan is known for its luxurious oils whether it’s for your hair or body, and this body oil is one of my favorites. It is a clear, spray-on oil that gives you a glowing sheen. It dries really fast and isn’t greasy or heavy feeling on the skin. It smells delicious, too! It has that warm, musky scent that the brand is known for.
CAY SKIN Isle Body Oil
If you haven’t tried CAY SKIN by Winnie Harlow yet, you’re missing out! The body oil is one of my favorite products from the brand. It’s jam-packed with nutrients including sea moss and squalane, to nourish the skin and give it that perfect glow. It also has SPF 30 in it to help keep your skin protected from harmful UV rays. This body oil dries fast, isn’t chalky or greasy, and has a warm vanilla and amber fragrance that I love.
Sol de Janeiro Bum Bum Body Firmeza Body Oil
Known for its bum bum cream, I recently tried the Sol de Janeiro body oil and I truly cannot say enough good things about it. It smells delicious, locks in moisture, and visibly firms the skin. What’s not to love? One of my favorite ingredients in the product is Brazilian Olive Oil, which helps keep your skin hydrated without a greasy feel.
Illuminate Me by Vaseline Shimmering Body Oil
For under $12, you cannot go wrong with this body oil! It’s so hydrating and leaves my skin glowing. Plus, it was specifically made for black skin, by Black women. It absorbs so fast, too. One of my personal favorite features of this oil is the shimmer. It has an amber glow to it, which looks amazing on my black skin.
Tom Form Soleil Blanc Body Oil
You ladies know how much I love my Tom Ford products and this body oil is no exception! Out of all of these body oils, this one is the most luxurious and the most pricy. But, the price tag is absolutely worth it! It is on the thicker side so it does take a little bit for it to absorb but once it does (worth the wait, I promise!), it’s light on the skin and gives you a healthy glow.
How Often Should You Oil Your Body?
How often you oil your body depends on your body type, but I recommend oiling at least once a day post-shower. If you have dry skin, oiling your body twice a day will give your skin the hydration it needs. There are also so many benefits of daily oiling that even if you don’t have dry skin, you can still reap the rewards.
Benefits of Body Oil:
Regulates Sebum Production – The nutrients in body oil mimic the natural lipid found in our skin, which helps with regulation and repair of your skin’s moisture barrier. This helps your skin to get in balance!
Improves Skin Barrier Function – When you apply body oil to your skin, the top layer of your skin treats the oils as their own. This results in radiant, moisturized skin.
Other benefits of body oil include protecting your skin against the sun, reduces the appearance of scars and stretch marks, and it helps relive inflammation.
How Can I Make My Body Skin Glow?
All of your questions about moisturizing black skin answered –
Do You Use Body Oil Before Or After Lotion?
When it comes to layering your body care, you’ll want to apply your body oil post-cleansing. I usually apply body oil after the moisturizer. By applying your body oil second, you will lock in the hydrating nutrients of your moisturizer, and also add an extra glow to your skin!
Do You Need To Wash Off Body Oil?
After applying body oil, it can take time to absorb into the skin but you definitely do not want to wash it off. If it’s too thick and is leaving a greasy sensation, you can use a towel to gently blot the excess oil. This will help leave your skin feeling soft, not greasy.
What Is The Best Natural Oil For Dry Skin?
There are several natural oils that have been used to combat dry skin for centuries. The best is coconut oil. It’s extremely moisturizing and helps retain moisture and can even heal extra-dry skin. Coconut oil also helps soothe skin thanks to it’s anti-inflammatory properties.
Does Drinking Water Help Dry Skin?
There are so many reasons to drink water; it helps brain function, helps maintain energy levels, it’s refreshing, and aids in digestion, just to name a few! But, just drinking water won’t moisturize your skin but it will help make sure your body (including your skin) functions properly. This is where body oils and moisturizers come into play.
Overall, body oil is a great way to pamper your skin and keep it looking its best! When adding a body oil into your routine, especially with dark and black skin, it’s important to make sure you get an oil that will work for your skin type so you can experience all of the benefits of using it.
