I don’t know about you, but my boys always ask to watch the same shows and movies, over and over again. While it makes finding something to put on quickly, especially when a meltdown is in progress, it’s hard not to consider all of the other great options that are available to stream. If you had kids, you know this feeling all too well. Even on the nights we sit down to watch something as a family and decide to watch something new, it always takes far too long to decide on what to watch. And guess what? We end up going putting on something we’ve already seen.
Luckily, there are so many amazing streaming platforms out there to help switch things up. Our personal favorite is Netflix because it is overflowing with family-friendly options. If you get overwhelmed with all of the options they offer but don’t want to resort to the same thing your kid has watched over and over again, I’m here to help! Here are some of the best family-friendly movies and shows to add to your Netflix watch list.
Are There Any Clean Shows on Netflix?
When there are kids in the house, finding something to watch that is appropriate for everyone can be hard. With the kids, we always avoid shows and moves with bad language, violence, and even shows that promote any bad behavior. We don’t want the boys picking up on anything and if I’m being honest, I don’t want to feel dragged down by what I’m watching.
A few ways you can find clean shows and moves to watch:
Set up a Kid’s Profile
By doing this, you’ll instantly weed out any shows that aren’t appropriate for kids or are simply shows/movies they won’t be interested in.
Pay Attention to the Ratings
Netflix has ratings on every show and movie that you can stream on their platform. Keep an eye on these! For kids, consider the following ratings:
- TV-Y: Designed to be appropriate for all children
- TV-Y7: Suitable for ages 7 and up
- G: Suitable for General Audiences
- TV-G: suitable for General Audiences
- PG: Parental Guidance suggested
- TV-PG: Parental guidance suggested
Utilize Platforms for Finding Clean Shows
There are a bunch of resources out there for finding clean shows to watch with kids, which makes life so much easier! Common Sense Media is a really popular one that tells you about a movie or show’s content based on seven qualities: positive messages, violence, language (tells specific words and how many times), drinking/drugs/smoking, positive role models, sex, and consumerism.
